At SGLNX, we’d given tips on how you can save money with opensource and linux by using alternative applications and operating systems that is cost free.  It doesn’t take long to realise that if money can be saved using opensource, the knowledge can be used to earn money.

Here are some tips of how we at SGLNX is able to generate some revenue from our ever-growing experience and knowledge of opensource and linux

1) Offer PC/software recovery services

a) For recovery of accidentally deleted files, Testdisk is able to recover most lost files and partitions as long as the harddisk is still readable.

b) For those whom need a temporary PC to use while their harddisk is removed for recovery, use a bootable USB linux OS to allow them to use the internet on the their own PC without the native harddisk.

c) For treating severe viral infections, use viral-treatment LiveCDs without having to boot into Windows first.
d) Offer backup and recovery services by using LiveCDs and gparted to backup the entire harddisk into another one using Ubuntu or any other linux OS.

2) Recycle old PC hardware by using them as an application server

a)  Offer services to install photo management/storage servers using old PCs [ eg Gallery2 ]

b) Offer services to install a local URL filtering server using old PCs for safe child browsing [ eg Dan's Guardian + Squid Proxy Server]

c) Offer services to install a SAMBA fileserver on old PCs so files can be shared easily between different PCs and laptops within the house

3) Offer to setup complete home entertainment media player using XBMC

a) Package a mini-itx system with XBMC and sell it for an attractive price

4) Set up a blog site to share linux happenings and teach others about linux

a) Earnings via advertisements
